Into the Desert For a House With a Name: Inside Amangiri’s $33M Utah resort

Aman is launching $33 million private residences at its remote Amangiri resort in Utah, extending its move into ultra-remote branded living.

Rising from the russet sands in a secluded valley scooped from a stretch of southern Utah desert, ultra-high-end global hospitality brand Aman has launched the first of 12 branded residences, expanding their remote desertscape resort Amangari – a favourite among tech billionaires tuning out.

Balancing total privacy with the brand’s signature services, Aman’s US $33 million Amangiri residences signals how ultra-high-net-worth tastes are going off-grid over urban.

Occupying a privileged spot on the fringes of the southern Utah border near the small town of Big Water sits the hushed, five-star Amangiri resort – ultra-hotelier Aman’s trophy desert destination that’s built into the landscape.

Just 34 minimalist guest suites and 10 tented pavilions at the adjacent, back-to-nature Camp Sarika make up the bulk of off-grid accommodation, with a planned expansion offering the world’s ultra-wealthy a slice of Utah desert to call their own.

Despite the $5,000 per night starting rate, it is one of Aman’s most booked resorts in the U.S, proving that there’s a strong market for the ultimate off-grid disconnect with all the premium trimmings of a super-brand that enjoys a global cult following among the super-rich.

Further hijacking ultra-high-net-worth penchant for nomadic luxury to the backdrop an Old Western film set, Aman is launching twelve carbon-neutral private sanctuaries to rent-until-sold.

Carved from ancient Utah landscape, the minimalist desert homes are a long time in the making, added 17 years after the Amangari resort launched and a year since the brand welcomed its first standalone Aman-branded residences in Tokyo.

But unlike Aman’s Tokyo residences, which are anchored in a global city, Amangiri prioritises isolation – signalling a different strategy focused on land, privacy, and brand loyalty rather than connectivity.

Designed to disappear into the rocky landscape, the largest and most expensive of the Amangiri residences is the 1,115- square-metre, six-bedroom Grand Villa and the first to come to (application by invitation) the branded super prime market.

Designed by Marwan Al-Sayed of Masastudio, the desert sanctuary, understood to be on the market for $33 million, sits on nine acres of land, hugged by an otherworldly landscape of stratified rock forged over millennia under endless inky, star-studded skies.

Uninterrupted views of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument provide a cinematic reference point straight out of an American Old Western – an otherworldly vista to be enjoyed from the private 36-metre pool hugged by ancient rock formations. Other private luxury add-ons include a private spa and gym.

Delivering an ultra-high-net-worth home owner’s dream on many levels – total privacy and security while sitting at the sharpest edge of minimalist aesthetics – the pared-back, low-slung desert sanctuaries were brought to life by LA-based architecture and interior design firm Masastudio, creators of the original Amangiri resort in 2009.

“Designed to disappear into the rocky landscape, the largest and most expensive of the Amangiri residences is the 1,115 sqm, six-bedroom Grand Villa and the first to come to super prime market”

Materiality, textures and colours will reflect the resort’s vernacular, with organic materials – cement, stone, and wood – blurring the Canyon Country’s untouched desert topography with the built environment.

The remaining 11 planned ultra-luxury residences – ranging from four to eight bedrooms – average over 7,000 square feet of open-plan living space, with private swimming pools and generous outdoor areas creating seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor living spaces.

Owners will have access to all the premium, hotel-backed services, which include Amangiri’s 25,000-square-foot spa as well as in-house dining, private chefd and guided adventures in the surrounding Utah wilderness, such as kayaking on Lake Powell.

Prices will range from $5 million to $12.5 million, but it is understood that residences will be rented until outright purchase.

“The architecture allows the ever-changing light, landscape and movement of the wind to shape the experience of the home,” says designer Marwan Al-Sayed of Masastudio, Amangiri’s original architect.

“Aman Residences, Amangiri are a true reflection of the land itself with no
two homes identical. This is an invitation-only opportunity to embrace our lifestyle in unmatched seclusion and surrounded by the architectural excellence and unparalleled service of one of Aman’s most iconic resorts,” Vlad Doronin, chairman and CEO of Aman Group added.

Investor notes

Until it’s sold, the home is available to rent for $45,000 per night. The real question is not whether this project will succeed but whether this is the beginning of a branded residence one-upmanship in creating ultra-premium, attention-grabbing branded residences in hard-to-reach destinations that keep brand loyalists coming back.

Aman is already making waves in the ultra-luxury yachting circuit with Aman at Sea, which is expanding its fleet to traverse uncharted seas and discover remote islands.
